The Art of Marketing Control
As I write this blog, I’m still fuming a little bit. I usually write my best when I’ve been ticked off somehow as my past articles elsewhere will illustrate that fact. The reason I’m writing this very off-topic blog is to let all interested parties know that while I was out putting fliers up today, I saw a new gym that had opened up in Spanish Fort, Alabama called “Snap Fitness” - right by the post office so that I’m 100% clear about where I’m talking about. So, I saw the phone number that they put up, 251-626-0320, on their window and I called them. The phone conversation basically went along these lines:
“Hello, this is Snap Fitness. Robert speaking.”
“Hi, I was wondering how much it would cost for two memberships to your gym? This is for two guys.”
“Well, is this a family or…”
“No, he and I are roommates.”
“Well, sir, Alabama state law doesn’t recognize two guys living together as a family, so…”
“Sorry, I’ve completely lost interest in your gym now. Have a good day, sir.”
Discrimination. I’m calling it. Right here. This is NOT right. I never disclosed my sexual orientation to the gentleman and I DID say that who I lived with was my roommate.
So, please. Take whatever action you feel is necessary because I don’t want these bigotted people anywhere near my home. Again, that’s Snap Fitness, Spanish Fort, Alabama, 36527, 251-626-0320. Call the owner, Robert, give him a piece of your mind, and let him know that this won’t be tolerated anywhere. Or you could call their corporate office, 952-474-5422.

I dont see anything wrong with what he said. I just became a member and very much enjoy the atmosphere. btw alabama state law doesnt reconize gay unions or marriage so that might be why he was asking

I’m a member at that place. Good people and I’m glad he upholds the law.

It was the tone, followed by the assumption, that he used and jumped to that made his “snap” judgment. I still to this day know truly in my heart that the man’s intentions were wrong for how he spoke to me.
